Answers on the canvas
Two canvases
While the search bar is open and holds an answer, the canvas shows the answer: its nodes and nothing else, with its own positions, pins and arrangement. Your explored canvas is untouched underneath and comes back when the bar closes or the answer is cleared. Nodes already on the answer canvas stay where they were between answers.
Everything the answer includes is lit; anything you expand from it comes in too; nodes outside the answer are dimmed.
The results panel
Under the bar, on the left: the trail, the explanation, and the result:
- Nothing matched: “The query ran, but your graph has nothing that fits.”
- One value: a big number (or text) with its column’s name under it: 42 · concepts.
- Rows: a table. A column of nodes is titled by their type rather than the query’s variable; node cells are clickable (select and fly), relationships show their name, paths read as “A → B → C”, links as their site, numbers in mono. The first 200 rows are listed; a note says “Showing the first 200 of 2,314 rows” or how the canvas’s filter and sort changed them (“48 of 212 rows, as filtered on the canvas, sorted by Year, highest first”).
- Matches: vector search cards (see Vector search).
The chevron by the × folds the panel to one line (the question and “12 rows”, “3 matches”, “concepts: 42”) to free the canvas; a new question unfolds it. The × closes the answer and keeps your draft.
Paging
Large answers come onto the canvas a page at a time. The answer is split into groups, the nodes each row adds; unless the query set an order (ORDER BY, or a text search’s own ranking), groups are ranked by how connected their nodes are among the answer, with the graph’s own connections breaking ties, so the first page is a cluster rather than a scatter.
The pager pill under the canvas (to the right of the results) reads Showing 25 of 212 with Show 25 more (gold) and Show all (asks first above 300: “An answer this big takes a while to lay out and is hard to read.”). A selected node carries a muted +N results badge for the answer’s nodes connected to it that aren’t on the canvas yet; click it to bring them in around it.
Facets
Above the pager, when the answer is mixed, chips narrow it without asking again: All (212), the top four types with counts, and a Filter menu with the rest of the types, each enum that takes two or more values in the answer, and Connected to “X” for the answer’s best-connected node when at least three hang off it. These are Arrange filters on the answer canvas: the results list follows them, and paging brings in only what’s kept.
Narrowing
When the model wrote the query and the answer is long or capped, Narrow with Claude asks for a tighter query: see Text to Cypher › Narrowing.
Arranging an answer
The Arrange button works on the answer canvas with its own lens: sort by Answer order (or Relevance for vector results), a property, connections; split by type or an enum; filter by dragging on the ruler. A new answer keeps the arrangement and drops the filters. See Arrange.
Clicking a node on the answer canvas expands it like anywhere else; what comes in joins the answer canvas. Hide it with H, or clear the answer to get back to exactly what the question returned.
