Notes
Every project has notes. They open over the project with ⌘J and close with the same key, Esc, or a click outside; the canvas underneath stays exactly as it was.
Notes are a Mac-app feature. The web viewer shows a published project’s notes read-only.
The overlay
A rounded panel over a dimmed scrim: the list on the left (252 points; hide it with ⌃⌘S or the sidebar button), a tab bar across the top, and the open note below.
The list
- Notes and two buttons: New folder, New note (⌘N).
- A Filter field (⌘F while the cursor isn’t in a note): matches titles and bodies loosely; results show each note’s folder path.
- Pinned notes at the top (Pin to Top in the right-click menu), in the order they were pinned; they stay in their folders too.
- The tree: folders (click to open or close; a count when closed) and notes. New notes go beside what’s picked: in the picked folder, or the folder holding the picked note.
- Drag a row up or down to reorder, left or right to take it out of a folder or put it in one; a folder carries its contents, folded away while it moves.
- Right-click: New Note Here, New Folder Here (folders); Open, Pin to Top / Unpin (notes); Rename; Export › Markdown… or PDF… (a folder exports all its notes); Delete… (asks when the note has text or the folder has items).
- The foot counts the notes.
Tabs
Open notes are tabs, all one width. Click to switch, drag sideways to reorder, hover for the × (⌘W). ⌘T or + opens a new note in a tab. ⌘1…⌘8 pick a tab, ⌘9 the last; ⇧⌘[ and ⇧⌘] cycle. The ⌘J × button at the right closes the notes.
The note
Its folder path, its title (serif, 30 pt; Return moves to the text), a line Edited 2 hours ago · 340 words, and the text. With no note open: No note open — Pick one on the left, or start a new one. Notes are Markdown: # for headings, bold, italic, - lists, [[another note]].
Saving and undo
Edits save about half a second after you stop, and when the notes close. Each note has its own undo history while the project is open, so switching tabs doesn’t mix them. Notes and their attachments live in the project’s folder and travel with an export.
Keys while notes are open
The notes take their keys ahead of the app’s menus: ⌘W closes the tab (or the notes), ⌘N and ⌘T make a note, ⌘F filters (or finds in the note), ⌘1–⌘9 switch tabs, ⌃⌘S hides the list, Esc leaves a field, then closes the notes. A click anywhere outside the note or field you’re typing in leaves it.
