Share to the Web
File › Share to the Web… (⇧⌘P) exports the open project, compresses it, and sends it to the sharing site, which lays it out and gives it a link. The link is copied to your clipboard and shown in a sheet: Public on the web (or Updated on the web the second time), “53 nodes and 90 relationships of “History of science”, read-only, for anyone with the link”, with Copy and Open in Browser.
Before the first share
Settings › Sharing:
- Username: how you’re listed on the site. Required: “Choose a username in Settings › Sharing first: public graphs are listed by who shared them.”
- Username key: filled in by the first share, which claims the username as yours (“The username “naman” is now yours. Its key is saved in Settings › Sharing; keep a copy to share under it from another Mac or the web.”). To share under a username you already own from another Mac, paste its key here.
- Site: where graphs go; the default is the app’s own site, changeable for a site of your own.
- Owner key: optional; graphs shared with the site owner’s key are featured on its home page.
What’s shared
The export: the shape, every node and relationship, the layout, and the project’s notes. Not the vectors, not the history, not the conversations. The copy is read-only; the page shows the canvas with the sidebar, inspector, hover cards, find (Raw Text, Raw Cypher and Text-to-Cypher through the site’s own model), the table, the shape, and the notes. It also offers Open in Syncretic, which imports it into the app, and an export link.
Updating
Share the same project again and the same link is updated: the app keeps the link and an edit key beside the project (publish.json), and sends them along. A graph too large for the site is refused with “This graph is too large to share.”
This is the one feature that sends your graph’s contents anywhere, and only when you choose it. Everything else in Syncretic sends at most your question and the shape.
