Changes and removals

“Remove every Source from before 1950.” “Set the kind of every node whose name ends in Paper to Paper.” “Clear the summary on Entropy.” Claude doesn’t change anything itself: for each change it writes a read-only Cypher query that returns exactly the nodes or relationships to act on, plus the action (remove or update) and, for an update, the properties to set (an empty value clears one). The app runs the query on this Mac and shows you what it found.

In the trail

Finding what to change in your graph → Found what to change in your graph · 12 to remove · 3 to edit, or “1 query couldn’t run”. A query the database rejects, or one that returns values instead of the records themselves, goes back to the model to be fixed, up to twice, as Ask’s repair does (“Fixing a query”). At most 20,000 rows of a query are read; the draft says “Only the first 20,000 results were read. Ask again after applying this for the rest.”

In the draft

Under Changes to your graph, one row per change: checkbox; a red minus (remove) or gold pencil (edit); Claude’s description; the count (“12 nodes”, “3 of 12 nodes” once some are unticked, “none found”, “failed”); a chevron. Under it: what an edit sets (“Sets kind to “Paper” and clears summary.”), “Removing a node removes its relationships too.”, or the problem (“Its query couldn’t run, so it does nothing: … Ask again to try another.”).

Open the row and every record it found is listed, 100 at a time, each with its own checkbox, its bead and title, its type, and for an edit the first property that would change (“kind: Book → Paper”, “already set”, “doesn’t have that property”). Show the query reveals the Cypher.

Applying

The footer button says what it does: Remove 12 nodes, Edit 3 nodes, or Apply Changes with the summary beside it. Removals go first, so what’s added can take the place of what went; a removed node takes its relationships with it (counted in the summary). It’s one undo step, like any draft.

The MCP tool propose_changes carries the same changes list, so Claude Desktop or Codex can propose removals and edits that arrive here for review. See Other AI apps › Tools.
