Raw Text

⌘5. Finds every node and relationship whose title, or whose searched text taken together, holds what you typed. No AI, no index, no account; it runs in a few milliseconds on the records in memory.

Press ⌘F in the viewer, make sure the chip says Raw Text, and type a name or a word: shannon, entropy, 1948. The app adds scopes and the Search in list.

How matching works

The match is loose: case, accents, spaces and punctuation don’t count. Each text is reduced to its letters and digits before comparing, so:

You typeIt finds
arjavamārjavam
sarva bhutanamsarva-bhūtānām
bg4.32BG 4.32
free energyFree energy principle, the free-energy principle: a unified…
energy freeanything holding both words somewhere (every word must be present when the whole phrase isn’t)
karma, dharmaanything holding either: a comma means any of these

A record matches if the whole phrase appears, or if every word of it appears somewhere in the text. Several terms with commas are alternatives.

What’s searched

Every Text and Enum property that’s ticked under Search in (the mode popover, or the pill at the start of the bar). Untick a property to leave it out; the choice is kept per project. The title property is marked “title” in the list.

For each record the search looks at its title and at the rest of its searched text joined together, with a break between them so a match can’t run across from the title into the text.

A ::scope:: typed in the bar overrides the ticked list for the terms after it. See Scopes.

Ranking

Results come in three tiers, each in natural order of title:

  1. records whose title is exactly what you typed,
  2. records whose title contains it,
  3. records where it’s somewhere in the rest of the text.

The answer is “ordered”, so the first page on the canvas is the top of this list, not the best-connected cluster.

The answer

The trail says Searched names and text · 12 matches · 3 ms, and under it, when scopes were used, where each term was looked for (“karma, dharma in Verse”). Results light on the canvas a page at a time; the panel lists them as a one-column table of matches (nodes by bead and title, relationships by name). Select one and the inspector marks every place the words appear in its text, scrolling to the first. The search is kept in history as the words, and runs again as plain text when you pick it there.

When nothing can be searched

  • “Nothing to search: every text property is unticked under Search in. Tick at least one, or name a type: ::Verse:: karma.”
  • “Nothing to search for: type a word, a name or a number after the scope.”
  • The chip reads Raw Text · nothing to search while every property is unticked.
